Quilt Show 2024 Gallery

Here are some of the photos from the Bourne Quilters Show held on 27th – 28th July 2024 at Emsworth Community Centre. We hope that you enjoy looking through them and can see some your favourites.

Christmas in July

You might think that Christmas is in December, but here you can see that it can be enjoyed in July.

Afternoon Tea

The chair’s challenge this year was ‘Afternoon Tea’ and participants were invited to submit a 3D display that showed what it meant to them. Visitors to the show were asked to leave a donation on the exhibit that they thought was the best.

Selfies

Hayling Island Piecemakers shared their award winning self portrait quilt with us at a show and tell. They ran a workshop with us and showed us how they were made. We thought that we would share our self portraits with you. Can you work out who is who?

Workshops

Over the past 2 years we have run a number of different workshops and BQ members exhibited a number of different items that they have made. We have wonky houses, doodlebirds, wraps and modern quilts to name but a few .

Gerry’s Workshop

One of the most popular workshops was run be one of our members, Gerry. She showed us how to make a scrappy block from strips that could be used to make a lovely star and diamond quilt when assembled. We had 7 of these quilts (plus a cushion) displayed throughout the show. The colour choices and size of blocks demonstrated what a versatile pattern this was

Demonstrations

We are very fortunate to have a number to talented members who demonstrated various techniques and projects over the weekend. There was needle turn appliquĆ©, rope bowls, EPP, some amazing birds and machines from opposite ends of the spectrum – hand crank to super modern embroidery machines.

Wall Hangings, Small and Medium Quilts

Not all quilts are large enough to completely cover a bed. Some are baby quilts for cots, or cosy quilts to snuggle up with on the sofa. Others are designed to be admired or displayed as art instead of the more traditional photos or paintings. We had plenty of all of these at the show .

Large Quilts

Our members are very talented and the quality of work that was submitted for the show was impressive, particularly the amount of work that went into some of the large quilts on display.

Challenge Group

The six members of the Challenge Group set themselves challenges throughout the year. Then their imagination takes over as they produce a diverse range of pieces. Themes this year included shapes, royalty, doors, shirts, and 200 years of the RNLI amongst others.

Retail Therapy

No show would be complete without the chance for a spot of retail therapy. In the weeks (months?) leading up to the show BQ members were busy and creative, making numerous items for our sales table. There were bags, cushions, hats, bookmarks and much much more. There was the opportunity to pick up a bargain on the ufo/destash table or books and magazines to inspire you . We were also lucky to have a couple of local traders to entice us with the fabric, thread or yarn that we absolutely must have.

Raffle Quilt

Let’s not forget our raffle quilt to support Tuppenny Barn. BQ members made the individual garlic knot blocks which were assembled into a beautiful colourful quilt. The draw will take place at our AGM in December.

Anyone for Cake?

One of the most important parts of our quilt show is the cake. The real cake, that is, rather than the quilted versions. There was a wonderful selection of hand-made deliciousness available which could be washed down with a cup of tea or coffee. This was so popular that at one stage it was difficult to keep up with the demand and the washer uppers had to round up reinforcements. By the end of Saturday it was obvious that more cake was needed for Sunday. In between the rushes, it was possible for those manning the refreshments to take a quick breather.
