Show and Tell

Bourne Quilters Members are so productive that there isn’t room in our newsletter to include pictures of all the lovely items that are brought to our monthly meetings for show and tell. So we now have this dedicated webpage where we can see more examples of everyone’s work. We hope to update this regularly.

November 2025

It was wonderful to see the results of the Christmas Funday. There was a flock of robins a group of Santas as well as their elves in aprons. We also spotted a few useful bottle bags which will look fantastic when filled!\

The Christmas theme continued with a circular bargello tree skirt and a table runner. Chris was a bit late with her pumpkin table mats, but they were worth looking at

It might be getting closer to Christmas but this still lots of sewing going on. Valerie showed us her interpretation of our block of the month quilt and Richard a couple of mini quilts to show us.

October 2025

They say that the baby things come in small packages and this month we saw plenty of smaller, but no less impressive items, that BQ members had made. Catherine showed us the mini quilt that she had made for the RSPGB competition that had been held as well as a small quilt based on log cabin. Lucy showed us a couple of pictures made using ribbons to great effect. We also saw some beautiful scrappy quilts from Donna and a flower wreath and mini hex quilt from Sue.

Some members are very keen hand piecers and quilters. Hermione showed us her fussy cut and pieced hexagon quilt and Diana impressed us with her hand quilting. Even the back looked good.

Wendda’s bag making journey continues with a pleather holdall. Gloria showed us how effective a limited colour palatte can be and, once again, Alice impressed us with her piecing and showing how much she deserves the ‘Master Quilter’ title.

This month we shared the instructions for the last block in our ‘Block of the Month’ series. Esme showed us her interpretation of this and we look forward to seeing how everyone else has interpreted it.

September 2025

Once again BQ members were keen to share their recent makes, especially as some of them had been to some very interesting courses and learnt new skills. Wendda had taken her bag making to a new level and showed us a stunning pink leather bag that was beautifully lined as well. Alison had been on a book binding course and displayed some amazing journals

After their Master Quilters marathon both Alice and Maria deserved a rest, but there was no stopping them! Alice had completed a stained glass mini quilt as well as a unicorn and both had finished some lovely messenger bags.

We are always keen to encourage new quilters and were very pleased when Lucy brought along her first two completed quilts as well as a little kawandi mat that she made using the leftovers. We would love to see even more from our newer members. There will be more kawandi to see next month as we are running a workshop on it this month.

It’s always lovely to see the output from the workshops that we run for members. Kathy had such fun at our recent rag quilt day that she has made some baby quilts using this very effective technique.

Karen has been experimenting with her new embroidery machine. The resulting baby quilt will soon be with grandchildren that I am sure will appreciate it as much as we did. Catherine apologised for only bringing along one of a pair of cushions covers as the other one is already in use on the sofa. Frances had finally finished a quilt that had been destined to be a wall hanging in a previous house, but with a few additions was now a bed quilt.

August 2025

Our Strawberries and Pimms evening was another opportunity for BQ members to share their makes. The BOM continues to inspire quilters to make the blocks and Val and Esme showed us their colour choices.

Daphne had an interesting take on a sampler quilt with her wallhanging and Lesley continued her bag making using more of the fabric she purchased from Lady Sew and Sew. Rita showed us her book cushion and Chris was reluctant to model her bucket hats.

Quilts don’t need to be complex to be effective. Catherine had quilted a small whole quilt and Wendda had joined squares in a simple pattern. Interestingly both had chosen a lovely golden border to finish them off.

July 2025

The July meeting once again showed how productive BQ members are and some of their fantastic makes are shown below

Following the rag quilt workshop led by Elizabeth Saunders, we were shown some of the lovely makes including a cushion and a quilt for a dolly and a cot quilt.

Living up to our name as quilters, we were treated to some fantastic quilts. Marilyn showed us her exploding heart, Catherine revealed how she uses up scraps very effectively and Diana showed us a quilt inspired by a previous workshop run by Gerry and we could see how the clever use of colour produced a totally different effect from those we had seen before. Lis and Gerry had used kits to make some incubator quilts.

As well as quilts BQ members are prolific bag makers. Diana used hers to carry her quilt. Lisa had used an embroidery machine for her colourful hummingbird bag. Chris and Lesley showed off their makes following the trip to Lady Sew and Sew. Chris used some poppy fabric to make a bag for her sister. Lesley had purchased some panels and picked out a lovely contrasting colour for the lining.

We were also shown how creative people can be. Sue had made some flowers from a kit that she had been given for her birthday. Val had been inspired to make a block keeper that she was using to store her block of the month until she was ready to sew them together. Gerry has been very busy making little dogs that can be used to store our sewing notions or for non sewers they are handy for make up brushes

And finally our block of the month continues and Kathy, Esme and Val showed that they are quick off the mark and manage to complete the latest block as soon as it is sent out! By the look of these very colourful examples, the finished quilts will be amazing.

June 2025

There were lots of goodies shared by our members at our meeting in June.

Catherine made a pair of quilts from a tablecloth and napkins that she found in a charity shop. These are destined for Project Linus.

Wendda showed examples of the cushions that will be made by young quilters at their next session

Sue and Valerie had also brought along cushions

Following our successful sewing day the cot quilts and incubator quilts continue to flood in – incubator quilts in particular are in high demand

The block of the month has been very successful and members showed off their latest completed blocks.

And finally, Lisa showed off her South African Quilt and Lucy her tulips
