Are you aged 8 to 18? Do you know someone aged 8 to 18?

Bourne Young Quilters are held about twice a term at Emsworth Community Centre. We do a different project each time and the aim is that you will go home with a finished project. All materials are supplied. Cost £5. Bourne Quilters members support this with 121 help. Its great to see how skills develop.

To come along you need to be a Young Quilter which is free find out how here https://www.youngquilters.org.uk/resources/free-young-quilter-membership.html

The next Young Quilters workshop will be on Sunday 1st February 2026, 2pm to 4.30 pm at Emsworth Community Centre.

The project was to make a Christmas stocking which seemed to go really well. All the young quilters made a stocking and most of them also made a gnome gift tag. This gave them the opportunity to use bondaweb and do some cutting out. Thanks to Ellie for all the preparation and for leading the workshop.

The latest Young Quilters workshop was on Sunday 26th October at Emsworth Community Centre. The young quilters had fun making thread catchers and ate a lot of cake. Thanks to Vicki for leading the workshop.

The latest young quilter workshop had lots of things going on ! The young quilters made name badges that were embellished and trinket trays and then practised their stitching skills.

In June Bourne Young Quilters had a great time making a 9-patch cushion. Thank you to Wendda who cut out the 144 required 6-inch squares in a great choice of colours and fabrics. While we have made many projects, this was the first test using a ¼” foot (which were kindly donated free of charge by Janome). All the practice in previous workshop in stitching straight lines
came into play, we introduced matching seams and the results were fantastic as our young quilters develop their skills.

In this workshop the Young Quilters made messenger bags. With half term and the summer break approaching these will be well used. There was a variety of fabrics to chose from and it meant practice in sewing seams and with supervision (if they wanted to) ironing seams flat and turning a bag outside to right side.

It was another great workshop for Bourne Young Quilters.  We had 10 stitchers making Easter and Mothering Sunday cards.  As ever thank you to all the Bourne Quilters members who come along to help and are essential in making the workshop a success.

The Easter cards were made using ribbon that was stitched onto calico, it’s a great way to help develop sewing machine control and stitching straight as the edge of the ribbon can be followed as a guide.  Plus there is the opportunity to play with patterns on the machine and threads that are at hand to a decorative effect.  Using a template the egg shape was then cut out and stuck to a hessian background and stitched on.

As Mothering Sunday was the next day it was also a great opportunity to make some cards for Mums.  Its quite amazing the variety of designs that can be achieved with the same materials.  The imagination of the Young Quilters and also their clear idea of the design they want makes working with them so easy.  We told the Mums to not come in the room at the end of the workshop so we could hide the surprise from them.
